March 19, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist picked up a pair of Gulf South Conference victories over Arkansas Tech, as senior pitcher Kristen Rigsbee slowed Arkansas Tech with a 5-3 victory in Game 1, while freshman pitcher Kayci Wilson shut out the Golden Suns with a 5-0 victory in Game 2.

Ouachita (20-5, 5-1 GSC West) trailed Arkansas Tech (10-9, 0-2 GSC West) 3-1 after the Golden Suns put together a three-run sixth inning, aided by a pair of errors from Ouachita. The Lady Tigers answered back, however, with a four-run sixth to take a 5-3 lead that would stand.

Rigsbee (11-1) continues to have an outstanding season on the mound, going seven innings and allowing just one hit. The junior gave up three runs, while striking out five. Ouachita racked up eight hits in the Game 1 victory, led by freshman Kayci Wilson’s pinch hit two-run double. Junior Whitley Hoppe finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Rigsbee scored a pair of runs for the Lady Tigers.

Morgan Rodgers (5-5) took the loss on the mound, going .2 innings and giving up two earned runs. Tiphani Moon collected the only hit for Arkansas Tech.

In Game 2, Ouachita Baptist jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, then put together a three-run fifth inning, shutting out Arkansas Tech, as the Golden Suns only managed three hits in the loss.

Wilson (6-3) went the distance for the Lady Tigers, allowing three hits and striking out five. Senior Haley Chambers collected her fifth home run of the season, going 2-for-3 with four RBI at the plate, while sophomore Jana Deen finished 1-for-2 with an RBI for Ouachita.
