Ouachita Department of Visual Arts to present senior graphic design exhibit April 12-23

March 30, 2010

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—The Ouachita Baptist University Department of Visual Arts will present a senior graphic design exhibit in the Hammons Gallery in the Mabee Fine Arts Center Monday, April 12, through Friday, April 23. An opening reception will be held on Tuesday, April 13, at 6 p.m.

The show will consist primarily of each student’s graphic design portfolio work, though some space will be used for paintings, drawings and other studio work. Each student will exhibit approximately 10 to 12 pieces.

David Bieloh, chair of OBU’s department of visual arts and associate professor of art, is organizing the exhibit.

“This is going to be a very strong display of design work, with a lot of variety,” Bieloh said. “It is our second real group design show, and we expect it to be very impressive. Though the students have been working hard on their work all semester, the work exhibited in the show is really the culmination of two years of effort.”

“My expectations for this show are really high,” said Melissa Richardson, a graphic design and mass communications double major from The Woodlands, Texas. “Everyone in this exhibit is a talented designer, so all of us together will make for a great show.”

Bieloh “tries to incorporate real world situations into the learning so we can be better prepared for after graduation,” said Melissa Edwards, a graphic design major from Azle, Texas. “Things seems more organized and challenging, and overall the students enjoy it more than just required classes.”

In addition to Richardson and Edwards, the exhibit will display the works of: Bethany Briscoe, a graphic design and mass communications double major from Plano, Texas; Josh Hesse, a mass communications major and art minor from Arkadelphia; Hannah Moon, a graphic design major from Heath, Texas; Jan Plewinski, a graphic design major from Bremen, Germany; Emma Smith, a mass communications major and art minor from Paron, Ark.; Joseph Stout, a graphic design and mass communications double major from White Hall, Ark.; and Jared Tohlen, a graphic design major from Raymore, Mo.
