The Ouachita Tiger baseball team took to the road on Saturday, heading to Searcy, Arkansas to face off with the Bisons of Harding University. Saturday’s action consisted of a doubleheader, with a rubber match coming on Sunday. The Tigers took the first game by a score of 4-1, before falling in the second game to Harding by the same score.
Davis Ward was the winning pitcher in the Tigers’ first game, pitching a complete game, four strikeout performance and making his record 9-2. The Tigers scored two runs in the second inning to kick things off, coming on a pair of singles, before adding another two in the ninth inning to cap off their 4-1 win.
Harding’s only run of the game came in the fifth, when a double to left center allowed a runner to cross home plate.
Keegan Ghidotti led the Tigers from the plate with a 3-of-5 showing in the game, including an RBI and a run scored. Will Wallace was 2-of-2 on the day, picking up three walks en route to the Tiger win. Harding’s Trent Wooldridge finished 2-of-4.
In the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, the Tigers struck first. The Tigers’ second inning run came from a walk by Duncan Collins that scored McCrae Jones and took an early lead. Unfortunately for the Tigers, that would be their last run of the game.
All four of Harding’s runs in the game came during the fourth inning, in which they put together a five hit inning. One run was scored due to a double, while three were scored due to a pair of singles, as Harding walked away victorious and helped split the first day of action.
The Tigers only notched one hit in the second game, coming from Parker Norris, who finished the game 1-of-3. Harding’s Chris Hardey recorded a 2-of-3 game, with a run scored and an RBI.
The Tigers and Bisons return to action on Sunday, as the winner walks away with a series victory. Action is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from Searcy.
