Career Services Office to host Job/Internship Search Workshop Oct. 14

October 11, 2010

ARKADELPHIA, Ark- Ouachita Baptist University’s Career Services Office will host a Job and Internship Search Workshop on Thursday, Oct. 14, in the Ouachita Commons Alumni Room from 12 noon to 12:50 p.m. Students are welcome to come and go throughout that time.

“The Career Services Office will be hosting the workshop for any and all interested students wanting to learn more about how to conduct a job and/or internship search effectively,” said Mallory Moddelmog, director of career services. “Students might be interested in knowing there will be free dessert, and door prizes will be given out at the end of the workshop.”

Moddelmog said the workshop has two goals. First, it is designed to lead students through the actual process of searching for a job or internship. Second, it will highlight what students must evaluate to determine the type of job/internship they want to pursue. The workshop will take participants through utilizing their own network and then offer tips on how to connect with potential employers.

“Students should attend the workshop to find out that searching for a job/internship should not be so intimidating,” Moddelmog said. “Once you are equipped with a plan of action, then the process can be very rewarding.”

A student panel will be featured including five students who will share about their own summer internship experiences. The student panel will share how they got their internships, tell about the internship experiences and explain how they anticipate their internship will assist them in finding a job after graduation.

The Career Services Office has implemented an online job board called Tiger Career Connection, which will also be demonstrated during the workshop.

“Students can customize their own profile, upload their resume and search for jobs and/or internships,” Moddelmog explained, “as well as have access to contact information of those employers who have ever posted a job through Tiger Career Connection.”

“If students are unable to attend the workshop, they are more than welcome to set up an appointment with me to discuss their individual job or internship search needs,” said Moddelmog. “Students are encouraged to visit www.obu.edu/career and take advantage of our online resources: The Perfect Interview, The Focus2 assessment survey and Tiger Career Connection plus many, many more resources on our website.”
