Chamber Ensembles to Perform April 23

The Ouachita Baptist University chamber ensembles will present a concert on Monday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall in Mabee Fine ArtsCenter on Ouachita’s campus. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Horn Ensemble, conducted by Heather Thayer, will begin the concert with their performance of “Singing and Laughing” by Luigi Cherubini.

The Clarinet Ensemble, conducted by Dr. Caroline Taylor, professor of music, will perform the “Grave” and “Allegro Moderato” movements from James Thornton’s arrangement of “Church Sonata in E minor” by Arcangelo Corelli; “Litany” and “Roundelay” from Warner Hutchison’s “Suite for Clarinet Choir”; “Clarinet Rhapsody” by David Bennett; and Harold G. Palmer’s arrangement of “Italian in Algiers” by Gioacchino Rossini.

The Flute Ensemble, under the direction of Kristin Grant, instructor of music, will perform “Rose Cottage” and “The Doubtful Wife” from Catherine McMichael’s “A Gaelic Offering” and “Fetes,” “Passepied,” “Complainte” and “Tambourin” from Pierre Max Dubois’ “Quatuor.”

The Saxophone Ensemble, also conducted by Dr. Taylor, will then present the “Allegro Moderato” movement from Gioacchino Rossini’s “Quartet I”; “Modere,” “Pas trop allant” and “Un peu anime avec verve” from Christopher Gallaher’s “Saxophone Quartet, Op. 2, No. 31”; and Paul Nagle’s arrangement of “That’s A-Plenty.”

The Horn Ensemble will return to conclude the concert with “O Welt, ich muss dich lassen” and “Adagio from the Alto Rhapsodie” from Johannes Brahms’ “Two Brahms Pieces”; “Ländler” by Heinz Liebert; “Der Frohe Wandersmann” by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy; and “Radetzky March” by Johann Strauss.

The Horn Ensemble includes Kelsey Bates, a senior instrumental music education majorfrom Marion, Ark.; Grace Hevron, a sophomore music education major from Duncanville, Texas; Teddy Cross, a junior music major from Benton, Ark.; Aki Kanno, a freshman business administration and finance major from Japan; Anna English, a sophomore English major from Coppell, Texas; Elizabeth Lawson, afreshman music major from Texarkana, Texas; Megan Graves, a sophomore musicmajor from Hot Springs, Ark.; and Lauren Whaley, a senior dietetics and nutrition major from Tyler, Texas.

The Clarinet Ensemble includes Brooke Baker, a senior instrumental music education major from Swansea, Ill.; Hannah Bowen, a freshman choral music education major from Lewisville, Texas; Kalen Cummings, a freshman biology major from DeWitt, Ark.; Kristen James, a junior kinesiology, leisure studies and recreation major from Missouri City, Texas; Allison King, a freshman instrumental music education major from Fort Worth, Texas; Megan Massey, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Weatherford, Texas; Crista Riggs, a sophomore chemistry major from Edmond, Okla.; Chelsea Villanueva, a freshman instrumental music education major from Bentonville, Ark.; Sara Walker, a freshman musicmajor from Sulphur Springs, Texas; and Lauren West, a sophomore church music major from Hot Springs, Ark.

The Flute Ensemble includes Elizabeth Baker, a sophomore performance major from Grapevine, Texas; Maegan Hodge, a sophomore Spanish major from Springdale, Ark.; Kathryn Lee, a junior music education and instrumental major from Azle, Texas; LeeAnne Polk, a sophomore performance major from Greenville, Texas; and Elyse Senteney, a junior instrumental music education majorfrom Plano, Texas.

The Saxophone Ensemble includes Allan Bateman, a junior music theory/composition major from Perryville, Ark.; Shelbey Bilnoski, a freshman Christian studies and church missions major from Longview, Texas; Alex Goff, a senior instrumental music education major from Nashville, Ark.; Bradley Lindsey, a junior instrumental music education major from Longview, Texas; Cyrus Morris, a senior music major from Katy, Texas; and Brent Nessler, a sophomore instrumental music education major from Rowlett,Texas.
