Ouachita’s 125th anniversary celebration began this week at Tuesday’s chapel service.
After the singing of Ouachtita’s Hymn, President Rex Horne, Jr., introduced Dr. Jeff Root, dean of Humanities who presented a look at life in 1886, the year Ouachita was founded.
The program included historical facts from around the world (such as 1886 was the year construction on the Eiffel Tower was begun in Paris, France, and the year the Statue of Liberty was given to the United States by the people of France).
Students and faculty also had the opportunity to sing along to the American folk tune “Sweet Betsey from Pike” and the hymn “At the Cross,” both written around that period of time.
Throughout the next year there will be events commemorating the 125 years of service Ouachita has provided, and the theme will be worked into normal campus events as well.
A new logo was designed by Rene Zimny to further instill a sense of pride in Ouachita reaching this milestone. For more information on the events for the year visit www.obu.edu/125
