CFW Profile:Jarrett Stephens

February 2, 2011

Amanda Like with the Online Signal interviewed Jarrett Stephens, who currently works as the Teaching pastor at Prestonwood church in Plano,Texas.

AL:First, I see from your church profile you have a love of reading, what was one book you had to read in college that you absolutely hated/loved?

JS:  Loved:  “The Contemporary Christian” by John Stott
Hated:  “Iliad” by Homer

AL: Where did you graduate and when?

JS: Ouachita for undergrad, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for Masters of Divinity and working on Doctorate at Liberty Seminary.

AL: Ouachita has a good number of students who go on to work in religious and missionary fields once graduated, but some did not start college with that
mindset. Did you ever change majors while in college?

JS: I did not change majors, but I added one my junior year.  I started in Biblical Studies and added Psychology.  It was already my minor and so rather than taking some electives, I chose to take two or three more psyc. classes that allowed me to double major.

AL:As you come to Ouachita’s campus for Christian Focus Week, what is one thing you want students to learn from you?

JS:  I hope they will learn to have a love for the Scriptures. I love God’s Word and pray that characteristic will be “caught” in the time that I am there with you all.

AL:What was your favorite class?

JS:  Dr. Terry Carter was my favorite prof…any class he taught was great. I also enjoyed “Early Epistles of Paul” with Dr. Duvall.

AL:What was your least favorite class?

JS:  Contemporary World – memorizing that map was a killer.

AL:What group of people would you have hung out with at school?(Jocks, popular kids, the nerds,….)

JS:  I was in a social club so I would have hung out with those in the club
