November 13, 2008

Sports nutritionist Nancy Clark will present “Nutrition in Action: How to fuel your body for school, sports and health” as a part of Ouachita Baptist University’s Nell Mondy lecture series. The lecture will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall.

Clark, an internationally known sports nutritionist, is board certified as a specialist in sports dietetics. Clark specializes in nutrition and the management of eating disorders. Her private practice is located at Healthworks, the premier fitness center in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

Clark completed her undergraduate degree in nutrition from Simmons College in Boston, her dietetic internship at Massachusetts General Hospital and her graduate degree in nutrition with a focus on exercise physiology from Boston University. She is a Fellow of the American Dietetic Association and the American College of Sports Medicine.

The author of the best-selling book “Nancy Clark’s Sports Nutrition Guidebook,” Clark also writes a monthly nutrition column called “The Athlete’s Kitchen,” which appears regularly in more than 100 sports and health publications.

The lecture will “provide a lot of good general information, relevant to a wide range of people,” said Stacy Freeman, associate professor of dietetics. Freeman also emphasized that the endowed lecture series provides a great opportunity to invite top caliber speakers such as Clark to Ouachita.

The Nell Mondy Lecture Series Endowment was established at Ouachita in 1991 by Dr. Nell Mondy, an alumna of the university. Dr. Mondy was professor emerita of nutritional sciences, food science and toxicology at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. The lecture series focuses on the fields of chemistry, food science and nutrition. Guest lecturers are outstanding scholars who have achieved national prominence in their fields.
