Halloween Happenings

October 24, 2016

It’s nearing that time of year when the leaves begin to turn lovely shades of fall color , the Arkansas heat slowly dissipates into a slight chill in the air, and Instagram pages are splattered with perfectly (or maybe not-so-perfectly) carved pumpkins. But, what’s Halloween season without all the fun events, trick or treats, and candy? Don’t worry! For all you children-at-heart, Ouachita has several events that provide the perfect opportunity to dress up in crazy costumes, carve pumpkins, tell spooky campfire stories and slip sweetly into a candy coma.

Beginning the Halloween festivities is the Block Party: Halloween Edition hosted by Maddox Hall. This party will take place on Tuesday Oct. 25 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the area between Maddox, Georgia and Everett Hall. All Ouachita students are invited to bring their friends and join in the fun activities. There will be fun carnival games, yummy Halloween snacks and a costume contest. The person dressed in the best Halloween costume will receive a prize. For any other details about this party contact Jenna Headrick at headrickj@obu.edu.

Kicking off the Halloween weekend, Student Life will host a Murder Mystery Night on Friday Oct. 28 in the Evans Student Center at 7 p.m. The theme for this event is staged in the 1920’s so come dressed as a murder mystery detective or in your favorite 1920’s attire. Students can sign-up in teams of 4-5 on a sheet posted outside the Student Life office. There will be three rounds played, with each round getting increasingly more difficult. Your team should come ready to solve the mystery in classic, 1920s style. For any more information about this event contact Stacy Perry at perrys@obu.edu.

On that same night of Oct. 28 there will also be a Halloween campout and pumpkin carving party hosted by Ouachita’s Recreational Life. The event will be held at the Eubank’s Lake at 4 p.m. Dinner will be served around 6 p.m. and will be followed by pumpkin carving and s’mores provided by Rec Life. After the festivities you will campout under the stars and wake up to a complimentary breakfast. Tents and sleeping bags will be provided for free on a first come first served basis. This event is free for students as long as you sign up. Registration ends Thursday, Oct. 27 at midnight. Contact Shane Seaton for any more information on this event at seatons@obu.edu.

Saturday, Oct. 29, the men of Eta Alpha Omega will host a Monster Mash party in the Tiger Den starting at 8 p.m. The night will be filled with dancing, Halloween games and a costume contest. Party admission with be $3 for singles and $5 for couples.

Completing Ouachita’s Halloween festivities, Perrin’ Scarrin’ will take place on Monday, Oct. 31 from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. during open dorm hours. Each of the three floors in both Flippin and Perrin halls will be decorated in various scary themes, with a special surprise in the basement of Perrin. There will be candy and a lot of scares. For any more information on this event contact Jake Kornegay at kornegayj@obu.edu.
