Hit or Miss

•Two tailgate parties are scheduled for Saturday’s football game. Rho Sigma is hosting one in the amphitheater where there will be a dunking booth and ribs (the televised Arkansas vs. Texas was canceled). The best part is it is all free. It runs from 1-6 p.m. Also free for students is the Tiger Tailgate near the indoor practice field at 5:30 p.m.

•Rance Collins’ student film “A Movie Musical” is going to premiere in the Jones Performing Arts Center instead of the Walker Conference Center as previously planned. It will make the occasion even closer to a Hollywood premiere. Mark your calendar for Friday, Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

•Officially breaking ground on the student village (or new dorms, if you like). Construction has been going on all summer, but the ceremony this morning included the signing of a steel construction beam and a prayer. It is neat knowing our names will forever be in the ground beneath the shiny new buildings.

•The end of Season 1 of “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” on ABC Family. Created by Brenda Hampton, the same woman who brought us “7th Heaven,” this show took a single topic (sex) and showcased several different moral and cultural takes on the matter. Even though the finale had absolutely no closure on anything that happened in the 10-episode season, I know I will miss the show until it comes back for round two in 2009.

•Long days and too-short nights. With classes then homework, extracurricular activities and friends, how are we supposed to make time for sleep? And eating? And breathing?

•Parking, again. Trying to park at a football game is terrible. I was blocked in after Saturday’s game, and it was so muddy cars were getting stuck. This week I’m either walking or paying two bucks to park in the reserved parking. The money goes back to athletics anyway so I can support them financially in a small but worthy way.
