Lady Tigers Record Split of Doubleheader in First Day of Action Against Northwestern

April 11, 2013

The first day of conference action against Northwestern Oklahoma ended in a split for the Ouachita Lady Tiger softball team. They won the first game of the afternoon in a 5-0 rout, before five errors in the second game contributed to a 6-1 loss.

Megan Askew kicked off the scoring with a home run in the third inning, followed by an error that allowed two more runners to score and gave the Lady Tigers (14-25, 7-13 GAC) an early 3-0 lead.

Their third inning scoring drive wasn’t done yet though, as they found a 2 RBI double from Michaela Hopkins, which gave them a 5-0 lead, a score that would hold the rest of the way.

Abbi Frakes picked up the win in the game, notching 10 strikeouts and only giving up a single hit en route to the shutout win.

The second game of the afternoon found Northwestern (13-15, 10-8 GAC) with a 4-0 lead after five innings.

The Lady Tigers finally got a run in the sixth inning, when Bailey Sanders recorded an RBI double and cut the lead to just three runs.

Northwestern answered with two runs of their own in the sixth inning though, stretching their lead to five and sealing the win.

The Lady Tigers and Rangers are back at it on Saturday, with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
