Lady Tigers to hold “Pink Zone” game Thursday versus Arkansas Tech

February 19, 2009

The Ouachita Baptist University women’s basketball team will play host Thursday, Feb. 19 to Arkansas Tech in the Pink Zone Game as tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Fans and cancer survivors are encouraged to wear pink to the game as the WBCA Pink Zone is a global, unified effort for the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s nation of coaches to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond.

The Lady Tigers, who boast a 17-6 overall record and 6-4 mark in the Gulf South Conference West Division, will wear pink warm-up tops and pink shoelaces to help raise awareness in breast cancer.

The WBCA began the WBCA Pink Zone, formerly known as “Think Pink,” in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball, on campuses and in communities. In 2007, more than 120 schools unified for this effort and helped make the inaugural year a success. In 2008, over 1,200 teams and organizations participated, reaching over 830,000 fans and raising over $930,000 for breast cancer awareness and research.

In 2007, the WBCA announced the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. For information on how to make a difference, please visit www.wbca.org.

Ouachita takes on Arkansas Tech at 6:00 p.m., at Bill Vining Arena and the game can be heard through the Ouachita Baptist University Athletic Web site at: www.obutigers.com.
