OBU Career and Corporate Development to host Academic Majors Fair Oct. 29

October 24, 2009

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. Ouachita Baptist University’s Office of Career and Corporate Development will host an Academic Majors Fair on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held in Grant Plaza in the center of Ouachita’s campus.

The fair is open to all OBU students who are interested in information about the diverse majors and minors offered at the university. Each of Ouachita’s academic schools will provide an information table, and faculty and students from the departments and schools will be available to answer student questions. The schools represented at the fair include the Frank D. Hickingbotham School of Business, the Chesley and Elizabeth Pruet School of Christian Studies, the Michael D. Huckabee School of Education, the School of Fine Arts, the School of Humanities, the J.D. Patterson School of Natural Sciences and the W.H. Sutton School of Social Sciences.

The Daniel and Betty Jo Grant Center for International Education will also be represented at the fair to provide students with information about a minor in international studies as well as study abroad opportunities.

Mallory Moddelmog, director of career and corporate development, invites any student to attend who has not yet declared a major as well as those students wanting to explore a different major.

It will be an informal, relaxed atmosphere,The fair is for those students who might be reluctant to make an individual appointment with a dean or faculty member. It would give them the opportunity to explore majors, minors and other areas of interest that will help them meet their college and career goals.

The fair is offered before pre-registration to help provide guidance for students as they prepare schedules for the upcoming spring semester. It is a great opportunity to come explore other fields of study, Moddelmog said.

No registration is necessary to attend, though students will be asked to check in at arrival. The Career and Corporate Development office encourages students to complete a free assessment survey at www.obu.edu/career/students.asp to help them identify aspects of their interests and personality, which will assist them as they make decisions about their field of study.

In the event of inclement weather, the Academic Majors Fair will be moved to Evans Student Center. For more information, contact Mallory Moddelmog at moddelmogm@obu.edu or (870) 245-5539.
