February 11, 2010

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—In celebration of the opening of tennis season, Ouachita Baptist University’s men’s tennis team is hosting a free clinic and exhibition from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at the Heflin Tennis Center on Ouachita’s campus.

“We are hosting this event to generate support from the local community and to give students a chance to interact with the team,” said Craig Ward, coach of OBU’s men’s tennis team.

The clinic is open for all to participate, regardless of skill level or age. “This isn’t a competitive event,” said Ward. “Anyone who is interested in tennis is going to have fun here.”

The event will begin at 2 p.m. with a half-hour instructional clinic for participants younger than 18 years of age. The adult portion of the clinic will follow at 2:30 p.m. At 3 p.m., participants will have the opportunity to partner with one of the student athletes for rounds of doubles. The team will end the day with a doubles exhibition from 4-5 p.m.

The event is free and equipment and snacks will be provided. For more information about the clinic, contact Craig Ward at wardc@obu.edu or 870-246-2441.

The team will open their season at home Friday, Feb. 5, with a match against the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff at 1 p.m. The team will hold their second match Monday, Feb. 8, when the team will take on Harding University at 1 p.m. at OBU’s Heflin Tennis Center.
