Alex Tonrey scored in the sixth minute, but the Ouachita Baptist University men’s soccer team couldn’t hold off Delta State as the Tigers fell, 4-1, Sunday afternoon to the Statesmen in a Gulf South Conference match.

Tonrey got the offense going as he scored on a free kick about 25 yards out to give Ouachita (2-4-1 overall, 0-3-1 GSC) a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers held the Statesmen at bay until the 34th minute when Stephen Axe scored on a penalty kick to even the contest at 1. David Hortsmann put Delta State ahead, 2-1, on an unassisted goal in the 46th minute and he added his second of the game in the 57th minute on an assist by Bruce Snow. The Statesmen got an insurance goal by Daniel Junkin in the 78th minute to close out the scoring.

Neal Ozmun recorded three saves for the Tigers, while Trey Jones finished with two for Delta State (8-6-1, 1-2).

Ouachita will step out of Gulf South Conference action and play 3 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Belhaven in Jackson, Miss.
