OBU Swimming off to good start

The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams started off strong during the opening day of the New South Intercollegiate Conference Championships Wednesday at the Delta State University Aquatics Club.


In the first event, the 1,000 Free, Megan Young was the first Ouachita women’s swimmer to place, taking fifth in 10:38.09. Caitlin Boren was 12th in 10:58.77, while Kelly Johnson (16th) came in 11L16.98. Heidi Siner placed 18th in 11:40.46 to round out the women’s event. In the men’s event, Vicente Condorelli took third in 9:31.07. Will Wood (ninth) came in 9:49.87, while Nick Bass and Nathan Bercaw were 20th and 21st, respectively, in 10:28.70 and 10:35.61.

The women’s 200 medley relay team of Sarah Watson, Jenny Christensen, Summer Morris and Trina May were third in 1:47.81, while the men’s team of Nelson Silva, Hal Eubanks, Max Heinze and Radu Badalac finished first in 1:31.25 to qualify for the Division II National “A” cut.

Both teams will be action Thursday, Feb. 12 as events of 500 Free, 200 IM and 50 Free will take place at the Delta State University Aquatics Club.
