OBU volleyball falls in home opener

The Ouachita Baptist volleyball team played at home for the first time all season, but came away empty-handed as North Alabama spoiled the Lady Tigers’ home opener with a 3-1 victory at the Sturgis Center Friday night as part of the first night of the HSU/OBU Classic.

The Lady Tigers (0-12) rallied late in the first game and downed the Lady Lions, 25-20. North Alabama (8-5) responded by taking the next three games, 25-9, 25-13, 25-19.

Libby Merritt and Ryleigh Lay paced the Ouachita Baptist offense with seven kills. Lexie Hegi added 20 assists. Meanwhile, defensively for the Lady Tigers, Lauren Stuart and Raichel Settle finished with 20 and 10 digs, respectively.

Whitney Sanders and Kelly Pratt led North Alabama offensively with 23 and 21 kills.

Ouachita Baptist plays host 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 against UAH to conclude the HSU/OBU Classic at the Sturgis Center.
