OBU volleyball snaps skid, beats UAH

Meredith Henry and Lindsey Pry accounted for a block assist to earn the final points as the Ouachita Baptist volleyball team snapped an 18-match skid, which dated back to last season, with a 3-0 victory over UAH Saturday morning at the Sturgis Center to conclude the HSU/OBU Classic.

The Lady Tigers (1-12) trailed 23-18 in the third game when Ouachita Baptist head coach Danny Prescott called timeout. The Lady Tigers responded by scoring six out of the next seven points to tie the contest at 24. Ouachita Baptist won the first two games, 25-21, 25-17 and took the third in thrilling fashion, 26-24.

Libby Merritt paced the Ouachita Baptist offensive attack with 14 kills, while hitting .542. Henry added 12 kills. Lexie Hegi finished with 34 of the team’s 38 assists. Kristyn Howk and Raichel Settle had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.

Kelly Ingram led UAH (1-11) with 11 kills, while Dimery Michaels finished with 25 assists. Whitney Corder chipped in with 16 digs.

Ouachita Baptist opens Gulf South Conference West Division action 7 p.m., Tuesday, Sept.23 at Arkansas Tech.
