OBU women’s basketball routs Christian Brothers

Haley Griffin finished three points shy of her career high as the Ouachita Baptist University women’s basketball team got back into the win column with a 78-57 rout of Christian Brothers Thursday night in a Gulf South Conference West Division contest at Bill Vining Arena.

Griffin was 7-of-14 from the floor and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line to lead all scores with 20 points as the Lady Tigers (11-3 overall, 1-1 GSC West) were 22-of-60 (36.7 percent) from the field and 32-of-40 from the charity stripe. The senior from Arkadelphia also finished one rebound shy of a double-double, with nine.

The Lady Buccaneers (7-8, 0-2) grabbed an 11-6 advantage after two free throws by Kat Butler with 14:46 remaining in the first half. Ouachita rallied and took a 22-19 lead after a 3-pointer by Domino Miller with 8:29 left.

The Lady Tigers closed the half on a 14-2 run to take a 38-26 halftime lead. Ouachita, which shot 36.7 percent from the floor in the first half, were 15-of-17 from the charity stripe and 11-of-30 from the field.

Ouachita opened the second half by outscoring Christian Brothers, 11-4 to put the game out of reach with 16:17 remaining.

Crystal Shelton paced the Lady Buccaneers with 14 points, while Tanaeya Worden added 13 as Christian Brothers were 20-of-58 (34.5 percent) from the field and 16-of-19 from the line.

Ouachita takes to the road for a pair of Gulf South Conference West Division games, starting 2 p.m., Saturday Jan. 17 at Arkansas-Monticello and concluding 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 22 at Arkansas Tech.
