OBU women’s soccer falls to No. 2 West Florida

The Ouachita Baptist women’s soccer team dropped its third straight match Friday afternoon as second-ranked West Florida defeated the Lady Tigers, 7-0, at the OBU Soccer Complex.

West Florida (10-0-1 overall, 1-0 GSC) broke a scoreless tie in the 15th minute as Dernelle Mascall played a ball into the penalty area, where Shaneka Gordan put the ball into the back of the net to give the Lady Argonauts a 1-0 lead.

The Lady Argonauts exploded for six second-half goals to put the game away.

Marcela Franco opened the scoring in the 53rd minute as she dribbled down the right side and scored on a shot toward the near post. Jordan Stone added a goal off an assist by Kaley Morris and Gordan in the 67th minute to give West Florida a 3-0 advantage.

The Lady Argonauts got goals by Alison Riley, Jodi Galucci and Kristina Menedez to put the game out of reach.

Megan Ruggles finished with six saves, while Sarah Glenn added one save for Ouachita (1-3, 0-3). Courtney Jones and Lauren Byrd played in goal for West Florida, with Byrd recording one save.

Ouachita, which is still seeking its first GSC victory, plays host 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5 to Montevallo at the OBU Soccer Complex.
