OBU’s Silva earns top swimming honor

Ouachita Baptist swimmer Nelson Silva earned Tuesday the Counsilman Hunsaker National Collegiate Swimmer-of-the-Week honors.

Silva helped the Ouachita men’s swimming team to a victory over rival Henderson State, 134-101 last weekend. He captured three individual wins, while earning four automatic qualifying times. The Sao Paulo, Brazil native claimed victories in the 200 individual medal (1:50.96 – school record), the 100 butterfly (49.66), and the 100 backstroke (49.02). The sophomore also achieved a national cut in the 1000 freestyle (9:29.04 – school record) while swimming exhibition.

The Ouachita swimming and diving teams are in action 10 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1 against Missouri S&T at Waggoner Pool.
