Ouachita Baptist announces 2010-2011 Spirit Squad members

April 26, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist University Spirit Coordinator Brian Bridges announced the Spirit Squad members for the 2010-2011 season on Sunday, after tryouts were held on campus this past weekend.

Along with the group of 16 Cheerleaders that will cheer on the Tigers in the upcoming season, Ouachita Baptist also selected members for the first-ever Pom Squad on campus. Both squads will coordinate in efforts to promote spirit throughout the campus for athletic sporting events in the fall and spring semesters.

“I am very excited about the Spirit Squads future,” Spirit Coordinator Brian Bridges said. “Each year it seems that the tryout turnout and the talent level increases. Our cheer squad, pom squad, and mascot are not only a very talented group, but they are a well rounded group with good grades, attitudes, and work ethics. The sixteen member cheer squad is the largest cheer squad we have had in years at Ouachita!”

The 2010-2011 Cheerleading Squad members are: Ashley Bell (Malven), Krista Carlisle (Searcy), Ashleigh Canada (Rogers), Kristen Barnard (Grand Prairie, Texas), Kelsey Lamb (Little Rock), Chelsy Lewis (Benton), Keena Dickey (Crossett), Leah Harrington (Hot Springs), Mikki Gaines (Hope), Chelsea Ariola (Springdale), Carrington Tillery (Hot Springs), Britlee Williams (Arkadelphia), Kelley Lester (Bismarck), Brittany Pennington (Hot Springs), Evelio Zapata (Fort Worth, Texas) and Tyler King (Judsonia).

The 2010-2011 Pom Squad members are: Stephanie Morse (Benton); Captain, Anna McCulloch (Little Rock); Co-Captain, Katie Pesck (Texarkana, Texas), Libby Harrington (Hot Springs), Mikayla Hampton (Arkadelphia), Amanda Seeley (Garland, Texas) and Casey Knight (Arkadelphia).

“I am also excited about the first time in school history that we are going to have a Pom Squad,” Bridges said. “Our pom squad consist of seven young ladies who are very talented performers. Our mascot is already putting together skits and ideas for next year’s appearences. I know that the spirit squads will be able to represent the University well – and they will be able to raise even more tiger spirit at athletic events and community appearances.

The first practice date for the spirit squads will be on Saturday, May 1 on campus with all new squad members.

“The future looks bright for our spirit program here at Ouachita,” Bridges said. “Our program will continue to set the standard in the Gulf South Conference.”
