Ouachita Softball Claims Three of Four Games in HSU-OBU Classic

The Ouachita Lady Tigers (4-2) finished up an impressive showing at the HSU-OBU Classic, sweeping Missouri S&T on Saturday after defeating No. 23 Missouri Western on Friday afternoon. The Lady Tigers only loss in the tournament came in a 4-3 loss to former conference foe Delta State.

Ouachita’s first game of the tournament just happened to be their worst, as they gave up a two-run seventh inning to the Lady Statesmen and eventually took a 4-3 loss after leading late in the game. Rayn House was on the mound for Ouachita, falling to 1-1 while only giving up two earned runs in seven innings. Jocelyn Jones, Megan Askew and Teresa Mursuli all recorded RBI’s during the game while Askew and Bailey Sanders both finished the game with two of four performances from the plate. Delta’s Ashleigh Allgood was credited with a victory after coming into the game in the sixth inning and striking out three of the six outs during her time in the game.

In their second game of the weekend, the Lady Tigers faced off with No. 23 Missouri Western, taking a 6-0 victory behind the impressive pitching performance of Abbi Frakes. Frakes only gave up three hits over the seven innings that she was on the mound, recording six strikeouts. Askew and Mursuli both recorded two RBI while Brianne Baley and Rayn House both added a RBI as well. Jones finished the game with a three of four performance at the plate, while Mursuli recorded six putouts in the game. Annalee Rubio took the loss for the Lady Griffons, giving up four earned runs in her six innings on the mound.

The Lady Tigers participated in a double-header with Missouri S&T on Saturday, cueing up a day full of blistering cold but a day full of offensive production for Ouachita. The Lady Tigers recorded a 7-3 victory over S&T in the first game of the two, giving House her second victory of the season after she held a perfect game going into the sixth inning. House eventually gave up three earned runs, all of whihc came in the fifth and sixth inning. Alexis Johns recorded a team high 3 RBI while Askew and House both added two. Askew continued her impressive offensive showing, getting on base two out of her three plate appearances. Johns and Mursuli both recorded six putouts in the game as well.

The Lady Tigers finished their weekend off right, run ruling Missouri S&T in the fourth game of their tournament and winning by a final of 13-2. Frakes was credited with another win, only giving up three hits in her four innings on the mound while recording four strikeouts, before being relieved by Baley in the fifth inning. Ouachita posted a seven-run second inning, while scoring no less than two in any other. Mursuli posted a game high five RBI for the Lady Tigers while House and Olivia Guin both recorded two.

The Lady Tigers return to the diamond on February 17, when they travel to Durant, Oklahoma to participate in a tournament at Southeastern Oklahoma University. The first game of the tournament will begin at 12 p.m. on the 17 against the University of Central Oklahoma.
