Ouachita Softball Splits Double-Header With No. 20 Midwestern State to Open Season

February 7, 2012

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Ouachita Lady Tiger softball team currently stands at 1-1 after Monday’s double-header with No. 20 Midwestern State University. The Lady Tigers used a huge offensive surge in the first game to wrap up a 9-3 victory over the Lady Mustangs, while Midwestern came out in the second game and repaid the favor, downing the Lady Tigers 9-1.

In the first game, Ouachita had a breakout second inning, scoring four runs on a grand slam by Megan Askew and taking the lead indefinitely. Askew finished the game with three hits in her four at bats while recording four RBI and a home run in just the first game of the season. Rayn House was on the mound for the Lady Tigers, collecting the win and two strikeouts while only allowing three runs in the seven inning contest. House also recorded three RBI with her bat, also hitting for .750 in the game. House held Midwestern to no hits through the sixth inning, as their lone run up to that point came due to a walked batter stealing home.

The Lady Tigers had a bit more trouble with the Lady Mustangs in the second game, only recording five hits and a run as compared to Midwestern’s nine hits and nine runs. Abbi Frakes had trouble with the potent offensive lineup of the Lady Mustangs, giving up nine runs, seven of which were earned, during her 5.2 innings on the mound. Midwestern’s Lindsi Glenn on the other hand was a tough match-up for Ouachita’s batters, recording three strikeouts in six innings and only allowing five hits. She also gave up one run. Ouachita had a rough sixth inning in the game, giving up a four run rally that ultimately put the game away for the Lady Mustangs.

The Lady Tigers return to action on Friday, when they host Delta State University at 1 p.m. and Missouri Western University at 3 p.m.
