Ouachita to host Robert Edwin in musical theatre lecture and workshop

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—­Ouachita Baptist University’s musical theatre department will host vocal instructor Robert Edwin in a guest musical theatre lecture and workshop Sept. 11-12.

Edwin will present a lecture on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. in Mabee Fine Arts Center’s McBeth Recital Hall on Ouachita’s campus. He will work with voice students on Sept. 11 and 12 from 2-5 p.m. in McBeth Recital Hall on healthy musical theatre singing. Ouachita’s musical theatre faculty will also spend time studying Edwin’s instruction technique.

A New York City native, Edwin is an internationally known singer, composer, teacher and writer. He has toured extensively in the United States and throughout the world and has made television appearances on NBC Christmas specials and commercials.

A leading authority on contemporary Commercial music, Edwin has served as an adjunct instructor at such institutions as the University of Michigan, the New Jersey School of the Arts and Burlington County College and continues to serve on the Applied Music Staff of Camden County College in New Jersey. Edwin is a frequent faculty member of the Voice Foundation’s Annual Symposium: Care of the Professional Voice. As a member of the American Academy of Teachers of Singing, he has led master classes and workshops in the U.S., Canada, and Australia. His private studio is in Cinnaminson, N.J.

Edwin has been an influential composer of church music and was a leader in the 1960s “Church Music Reformation” with his albums Keep the Rumor Going, With Joy and Synergy Series of Worship Experiences.

He is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the author of the column, “Popular Song and Music Theater” and an associate editor of the “Journal of Singing.” For more information about Edwin, visit www.robertedwinstudio.com .
