Furious first half: Lady Tigers easily put away Christian Brothers, 78-48, in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A 47-22 first half lead allowed Ouachita Baptist to easily dispatch Christian Brothers, 78-48, in Gulf South Conference Women’s Basketball action in Canale Arena in Memphis, Tenn. on Thursday.

Ouachita (17-6, 8-3 GSC West) moved a step closer to clinching a berth in the GSC Tournament with a victory over Christian Brothers (8-15, 1-10 GSC West). In the win, the Lady Tigers forced 28 turnovers and held a 46-38 advantage in rebounding.

It was a 16-10 lead for Ouachita with 13 minutes remaining, but the Lady Tigers went on a 31-12 run for the remainder of the half. Three Ouachita players recorded double figure scoring in the opening half, including 12 from senior Gabby Coleman and junior Tamara Robinson. Robinson finished a team-high 16 points and added six rebounds.

The victory allowed Ouachita to stay in third place with an 8-3 record in GSC play, behind No. 3 Delta State and No. 5 Arkansas Tech at 9-1. Right behind the Lady Tigers in the standings is Harding at 7-4. The victory over Christian Brothers on Thursday marked a season sweep of the Lady Bucs, as Ouachita defeated Christian Brothers 99-76 on Jan. 20 in Arkadelphia.

Along with Robinson’s totals, Coleman finished with 14 points, while junior A’Laeshia Adams added 14 points and six rebounds. The 21 offensive rebounds was the third time in five games where Ouachita has collected 20-plus offensive rebounds.

For Christian Brothers, Normanique Johnson led all scorers with 17 points and six rebounds, while Jessica Green totaled 15 points and seven rebounds.

Ouachita returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 19 against Arkansas-Monticello at Bill Vining Arena at 3 p.m.
