Ouachita’s Fowler Recognized by Fred Mitchell Award for Play in September

ARKADELPHIA, Ark.- The Fred Mitchell Place Kicker Award, given to the nation’s top collegiate place kicker every year, has announced their honoree list for the month of September, and due to his play during the month, Ouachita’s Jason Fowler has been named to the list.

Fowler has been flawless so far in 2012, converting on all six of his field goal attempts, including a long of 39 yards, and all 18 of his PAT attempts. He accounted for nine of the Tigers’ 27 points in a 27-24 victory over Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday and currently sits just 16 points away from tying the all-time scoring record at Ouachita.

Fowler is one of the 31 honorees for the month of September, and is one of nine players from Division II. The recepient of the Fred Mitchell Award will be announced in December based on performance on the field and in their communities.

Fowler will look to continue his strong performances this weekend, when the Tigers host Southwestern Oklahoma State for their homecoming game. Kickoff for that game is at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
