Police Investigate Wednesday Evening Murder

January 17, 2013

A Little Rock man was killed Wednesday evening following a shooting at 232 N. 13th St. in Arkadelphia. A Hot Springs man is currently in custody.

According to The Daily Siftings-Herald, Arkadelphia police responded to a report of a shooting at 8:43 p.m. on Wednesday and arrived within minutes to find David Stewart, 36, dead inside the home. John Griffin, 42, was quickly taken into custody and is currently charged with first-degree murder.

Little information has been released regarding the shooting. In an interview with The Daily Siftings-Herald, Clark County Sheriff Jason Watson said there was no relation between the two men, and that they were “visiting” at the time of the shooting. Watson did not comment on a motive or exactly what happened.

The Arkadelphia Police Department was unable to provide The Signal a police report on Thursday, as the investigation is ongoing. Arkadelphia police, the Clark County sheriff and state police are investigating.

This shooting follows a particularly violent December in the city, with the murders of a father and two of his daughters inside their home on Dec. 6 and a shooting outside Dino’s Main Street Cafe on Dec. 2 that left one dead.

More details will be posted as information is released.
