Tiger Traks weekend: Students start competing Friday

April 18, 2009

The Ouachita Student Foundation is an organization with the motto “Students helping students,” and that is just what they do with events like Tiger Tunes and this coming Tiger Traks beginning Friday, April 17.

Senior Paige Cate, OSF Special Events Coordinator, is passionate about the cause of the organization.

“Our primary goal is to serve the Ouachita community and provide scholarships for deserving students who otherwise would not be able to continue their Ouachita experience,” Cate said.

Junior Laura Kirby has been a member of OSF for two years and believes in the organization’s motto.

“We really try to keep true to it,” Kirby said. “I think it’s amazing to have an organization that is dedicated to serving fellow students.”

The organization is proud of how much students enjoy the event.

“Tiger Traks is one of the biggest events OSF does all spring semester,” said sophomore OSF member Lauren Altenbaumer. “It’s the perfect way for students to get involved to raise money for their fellow students to stay here because it is the ultimate fun.”

The event will begin Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. The 27 teams signed up will compete in events such as a basketball relay, ice fishing, mind games, Tiger Trek, mega relay, egg toss, mud volleyball and mud tug-of-war.

Several teams will include competitive students who are ready to aggressively take home first place.

“Let’s just say I am ridiculously excited about Traks,” said freshman Sarah Glenn. “There’s going to be some fierce competition out there, though.”

Spectators are encouraged to attend and watch the events.

“Even if you haven’t signed up to participate in Traks, come support the other teams and cheer on your friends,” Cate said.

Tiger Traks has become a tradition for Ouachita students, and OSF wants everyone to attend.

“This event has tons of history behind it,” Kirby said. “And we are excited that we get the chance to continue such a fun tradition.”
