September 13, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- While neither team was short of offensive pressure in a match that saw a combined 29 shots, it was Ouachita Baptist that provided the knockout punch to remain undefeated on the season with a 3-1 victory over LeTourneau on Saturday in Arkadelphia.Ouachita (3-0) kept their unblemished record in tact with a battle tested first half effort defensively, as LeTourneau (3-2) consistently put pressure on the Tigers and freshman keeper Grayson Townsend (2-0). Ouachita posted a shutout until a late goal at 81:42, but it would be all the offense the Yellow Jackets could muster overall.

It wouldn’t take long for the Tigers to find the scoreboard, as sophomore Sergiu Postolache started the scoring at 15:26 off an assist from sophomore Connor Burke. The goal from Postolache would be all the offense either team would see for the remainder of the match, entering the half with the Tigers clinging to a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers again visited the scoreboard at 65:32 with sophomore JT Goodrum’s second goal of the season, as senior Victor Romero assisted on the scoring play. Postolache provided his second goal of the game and third of the season at 79:35 as sophomore Jason Cantwell provided the pass to stretch the lead to 3-0 for Ouachita.

LeTourneau’s Ben Stoeckmann broke through for the Yellow Jackets on the final scoring play of the match with an unassisted scoring shot at 81:42 to set the final score at 3-1.

Ouachita held the advantage in shots at 16-13, while also provided an advantage in corner kicks at 5-1. Townsend earned his second straight victory at keeper, recording seven saves in a solid effort for the Tigers. LeTourneau keeper Anthony Martinez provided six saves, while allowing three goals to Ouachita.

The Tigers return to the field on Sunday, Sept. 12 against Texas A&M-International at Richland at 3 p.m.
