TigerSharks head to UALR

The men and women’s swim teams head to Delta state this week after finishing first and second respectively in the Henderson State Invitational.

The meet will be at home on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m.

“The deciding factor for the Delta State Meet will be the mind set we enter with,” said Carl Johnson, a freshman on the men’s team. “If we enter with a mind for winning then we shall do great.”

The Delta State meet is following very close finishes in the Henderson Invitational, with the men winning over Henderson with a score of 365-344 and the women finishing second to Henderson with a score of 326-373.

They look to follow those performances with a win against Delta State.

“Winning the events is always a goal but it’s also really important for our swimmers to place in the other top places to accumulate more points,” said Summer Morris, a senior on the women’s team.“If we can get those 2nd and 3rd places as well that will give us an edge over Delta.”

The men’s team will be led by senior Nelson Silva, who just returned from Brazil where he swam in the World Championships.

The women will hope for a repeat performance from junior Katie Patterson, who was the victor in three events at the Henderson Invitational.

“I think the team could do very well this year, both the girls and guys have traits and people who can lead the team to victory after victory and lead this team to great possibilities,” Johnson said.

After the Delta State meet, the team will travel to University of Arkansas-Little Rock to compete in the UALR Invitational.

The meet will be held on Dec. 4-5 and will be the last meet until Jan. 16 when the team travels to Delta State.

“I think our team is going to do great at the UALR Invitational,” Morris said. “We’re excited about making cuts for nationals and breaking some school records. We have been training extremely hard this year. I also think we’ll do well because on top of the talent we have within our team from last year, we also have some talented freshman that will really surprise our competition.”
