TWIRP week coming soon

September 4, 2009

With fall classes just starting to take shape comes the much anticipated week of TWIRP. This Sadie-Hawkins style tradition includes six themed social club-sponsored events, beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 8, and concluding the following Monday, skipping the Saturday in between.

Director of Campus Activities Becca Woodall explains what students can look forward to. “Most of the social club nights will probably have some dancing, a performance by the pledge class, door prizes, games and refreshments,” she said.

TWIRP gives students the opportunity to relax with their fellow classmates in nonconventional ways.
“Obviously one of the draws of the different themed nights is getting to dress up for that theme,” Woodall said.

TWIRP kicks off Tuesday night with the Tri Chi 80s Night and continues Wednesday with the EEE sponsored 50s Night. Thursday changes tone with Chi Delta’s Harvest Moon, which is more of a semi-formal dance.

Senior Andrea Newton, Chi Delta president, explains what differences returning students can look for.

“We are just having deserts this year as opposed to our traditional full meal,” Newton said. “We did this in order to cut down on the price of admission in hopes that we could entice more people to come.”

Harvest Moon is followed Friday night by the Chi Rho Phi Hawaiian Luau. Sunday, the Campus Activities Board sponsors a movie night (movie not officially decided yet), and Monday wraps up with the Campus Ministries Barn Bash.

“Barn Bash is held at a farm off campus with square dancing, barbecue and really great lemonade,” Woodall said. “Everyone brings blankets and quilts to sit on – it’s just really fun.”
No matter the theme, every student can find something at TWIRP.
