Women’s Tennis begins season with 9-0 win over Christian Brother

The Ouachita Baptist University women’s tennis team opened Gulf South Conference West Division action Friday at the Heflin Tennis Center with a 9-0 victory over Christian Brothers.

In doubles play, the team of Marianna Divardin and Katie Potts beat Ashley Schnedorf and Robyn Mellow, 8-1. Megan Ruggles and Thoko Zulu topped Natalie Jerden and Mary Beth Atkins, 8-1, while the team of Natalia Drada and Tavu Fa won by default.

In singles play, Divardin defeated Mordan Mills, 6-2, 2-6, 11-9 and Drada blanked Mellow, 6-0, 6-0. Fa defeated Schnedorf, 6-1, 6-0, while Zulu beat Jerden, 6-2, 6-1. Ruggles toppled Atkins, 6-2, 6-2 and Potts won by default.

The Lady Tigers (1-1) return to action at the Heflin Tennis Center, Friday, Feb. 20, to take on Northeastern Oklahoma State.
