Food, volunteers needed for Thanksgiving meal distribution

November 11, 2008

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and many of us look forward to an abundance of food, rest and time with family on this day. For the neediest families in our community, Thanksgiving can be a reminder of how hard life can be.

OBU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to join the Elrod Center, Sodexho Catering and Lighthouse Ministries in providing baskets of food for families in need this Thanksgiving.

Donations are needed to complete the baskets. Some items needed for Thanksgiving baskets include:

• Canned items: corn, green beans, sweet potatoes, gravy, fruit, cranberry sauce
• Boxed items: instant potatoes, macaroni and cheese, bag of stuffing or box of instant dressing, cornbread mix or bag of rolls, Jell-o or pudding dessert mix (brownie mix, cake mix and frosting, etc.)
• Home-baked items

Deliver canned and boxed items to Elrod Center by Thursday, Nov. 20 to allow plenty of time to assemble baskets. Home-baked items will be received Monday morning, Nov. 24.

Basket deliverers are needed all day Monday, Nov. 24.
