“It was really amazing growing up in Haiti. It was really easy there, easy way of living. Love the people, love the culture. Very slow-paced. Then coming to the States it was just a culture shock I had never experienced. The move from Haiti to the States was very sudden, it happened very quick. I wasn’t able to say goodbye to my friends I had made throughout the 12 years I was there. I left parts of myself in Haiti because I wasn’t able to have true closure. I didn’t think that the move was permanent so I thought that I would see them again. It’s sad and I try not to think about it because I can’t do anything bout it. It happened. I do keep in contact with some of them. But I had to realize my life is here now and I hope that someday I can go back and do what I can.”
