The Ouachita Baptist University swimming and diving teams took the pool, opening the 2009 portion of its schedule at the Delta State Aquatics Club Saturday with a pair of losses.
The Ouachita men were defeated 129-102 to Delta State and the Lady TigerSharks fell 141-98.
Ouachita’s women got off to a fast start in the first event, taking the 200 Relay (Sarah Watson, Jenny Christensen, Summer Morris and Trina May) in a time of 1:49.83. The men’s team (Nelson Silva, Razvan Goga, Daniel Karkoska and Radu Badalac) followed suit by capturing first in the same event in a time of 1:38.18. The “B” team of Kyle Bartlett, Matthew Pope, John Ragland and Harrison Tomlinson took third in event.
Freshman Megan Young placed first in the 1,000 Free (10:43.65), while teammate freshman Catlin Boren was third (11:08.05). Will Wood took second in the men’s 1,000 Free in 10:01.98.
Sarah Watson captured the fifth event for the Lady TigerSharks in the 200 Free (1:57.03) and on the men’s side, Badalac placed first in 1:39.52.
Despite not winning the 50 Free, Brittany Norton (24.82) and May (24.98) finished second and third, respectively in the event. Karkoska touched the line in 21:73 for second in the 50 Free, while Hal Eubanks was third (21.87).
In the ninth event, Katie Patterson captured first in the 400 IM in 4:37.46. Silva and Matthew Pope went second and third in the men’s 400 IM in 4:04.45 and 4:23.28.
In diving, Kelli Caldwell took second in the 1-meter diving with a 218.47, while Chris Hull placed second on the men’s side with a 199.12.
Norton placed second in the 200 Fly in 2:13.48 and Karkoska was first in the men’s event in 1:56.55.
May and Young went second and third, respectively in the 100 Free with times of 54.72 and 54.94.
Watson claimed first in the 200 Back in 2:06.82. Silva was first in the event, making the “A” Cut in 1:50.78, while Bartlett placed third in 2:03.38.
Patterson was second in the 500 Free in 5:15.60, while on the men’s side, Vicente Condorelli and Wood were second and third in times of 4:48.10 and 4:51.58.
Caldwell, in 3-meter diving, was second with a 223.55 and Hull also placed second in 202.72.
Christensen placed second in the 200 Breast in 2:32.80, while Goga took second in 2:10.47.
In the last event for the men and women – the 200 Free Relay, Ouachita’s women (Norton, Young, Patterson and Ruth Megli) were second in 1:41.75. The men’s team (Eubanks, Max Heinze, Austin Teague and Badalac), captured first with a time of 1:25.61.
Ouachita completes the home portion of its schedule 6:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23 against rival Henderson State during Senior Night at Waggoner Pool.
