Brown named state winner in piano category

February 8, 2009

Carrie Brown was named the Arkansas state winner in the piano category of the National Federation of Music Clubs Biennial Student/Collegiate Auditions, held Saturday at Henderson State University. A full recital of music (including compositions from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods, an Etude and a significant American composition) is required of all entrants in piano.

As the state winner, Brown has been asked to perform at the Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs state convention in Jonesboro in April, and she will receive a monetary award from the state in the amount of $200.

For the next level of this national competition, winners are required to make a CD recording which will be judged at the divisional and national levels. A minimum award of $1,200 is given to each top national winner in the 13 categories of this competition, which include categories such as piano, organ, harp, voice, strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion.

Brown is a junior piano performance major and is a piano student of Dr. Ouida Keck.
