February 9, 2009

Ouachita Baptist University women’s head basketball coach Garry Crowder tied a milestone Thursday night as the Lady Tigers stunned No. 25 Delta State, 64-58, in a Gulf South Conference West Division game at Bill Vining Arena.

With the win, Crowder tied Carolyn Moffat as the all-time OBU winningest women’s basketball coach with 213 victories.

The Lady Tigers (14-6 overall, 4-4 GSC West) used a 10-2 run to put the game away during a critical three-minute stretch to grab a 55-48 lead after a 3-pointer by Melissa Richardson. Delta State kept the game close as Moe Bell drained a trey with 3:03 left, but the Lady Tigers were able to sink four free-throws during the final minute to get the stunning upset.

Domino Miller paced the Lady Tiger offense with 13 points as Ouachita was 21-of-46 (46 percent) shooting and 17-of-24 (71 percent) from the free-throw line.

Ouachita started out 4-of-4 from the floor to jump ahead of Delta State, 14-2, after a Beulah Osueke 3-pointer with 16:04 remaining in the opening half. The Lady Statesmen used a 14-2 run to tie the game at 16 after a Moe Bell 3-pointer with 10:37 left.

The two teams traded buckets through the final 10 minutes and Miller sent the Lady Tigers into the break with a layup with four seconds remaining to tie the game at 28.

Ouachita was 9-of-19 (47 percent) from the field in the first half and 7-of-10 (70 percent) from the charity stripe. Delta State was 10-of-20 (50 percent) and 6-of-6

LaMaesha McAdory, Courtney Wilson and Moe Bell led Delta State (17-6, 7-1) with 14 points each. The Lady Statesmen were 22-of-53 (42 percent) shooting and 10-of-11 (91 percent) from the free-throw line.
