The Ouachita soccer teams have begun their seasons and are getting into their conference schedules. The Lady Tigers lost their first conference match of the season Sunday, falling 2-1 in overtime. The men and women travel to Alabama Huntsville this weekend for the men’s first conference game of the year, while the women look to get back on track.
Jamie Takala scored in the fourth minute of overtime for the golden goal as the University of North Alabama knocked off Ouachita.
Takala’s goal was set up by Meghan Brown, who beat her defender down the right side before crossing the ball into the penalty area. Takala’s shot beat a diving Lady Tigers goalkeeper Katie Osment for the game-winner.
Ouachita (1-1 overall, 0-1 GSC) broke a scoreless tie in the 39th minute as Laura Cox broke past the Lady Lions defense and dribbled past North Alabama goalkeeper Alex McLay before firing a shot into the empty net.
The Lady Lions (5-4, 1-0) answered with a goal in the 44th minute as Tassia Augusto found the back of the net, tying the game at 1.
Both teams had opportunities in the second half, but none bigger than North Alabama hitting the crossbar twice.
Osment finished with five saves, while McLay had two. North Alabama recorded 22 shots to four for the Lady Tigers.
The men did not play Sunday, but did face Hendrix last Monday, Sept. 15, and fell 2-0.
Two first-half goals was the difference in the 2-0 loss against Hendrix at Warrior Field in Conway.
The Warriors (2-2) broke a scoreless tie in the 13th minute as Collin Sitler found an open Dugan Keegan on a run to the far post. The first-year midfielder took two dribbles and fired the ball past a diving Tiger goalkeeper Neal Ozmun for the 1-0 lead.
Hendrix struck again, this time on a free kick.
Ouachita defender Reid Adkins picked a yellow card about 25-yards out and on the free kick. Will Brown struck the free kick to the far post for the goal, giving the Warriors a 2-0 advantage in the 40th minute.
Ozmun recorded six saves for the Tigers. Hendrix goalkeeper Adam Legg, who wasn’t tested much throughout the contest, finished with two saves. The Warriors out shot Ouachita, 10-5.
