OBU School of Fine Arts to present Festival of Christmas Dec. 4-5

November 21, 2009

ARKADELPHIA, Ark—Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts will present its annual Festival of Christmas in Jones Performing Arts Center on Dec. 4 and 5 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased for $5 at www.obu.edu/finearts or by calling (870) 245-5563.

“It has been called Ouachita’s Christmas card to the community,” said Dr. Scott Holsclaw, Dean of OBU’s School of Fine Arts. “It is a celebration of Christmas, both the secular and the sacred. As one lady replied to me after seeing the show every year, she said, ‘I cannot get in the Christmas spirit until I attend the Festival of Christmas at Ouachita.’”

“This started as and continues to be a Christmas celebration by the School of Fine Arts,” said Dr. Gary Gerber, associate professor of music at OBU. The program includes performances by students in Ouachita’s vocal, instrumental and theatre programs as well as dance students. Ensembles performing include Concert Choir, Ouachita Sounds, Ouachita Singers, Women’s Chorus, Tiger Blast and the Festival of Christmas Pit Band.

This year’s musical selections will feature the “best of” audience favorites from the past, including “Celebrate the Season,” “Winter Wonderland Medley,” “Holly Jolly Christmas,” “Grown Up Christmas List,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Mary Did You Know?” “Breath of Heaven,” “O Holy Night” and many more.

“This is an outstanding Christmas program that puts you in the Christmas spirit,” Holsclaw said.

For more information, call the School of Fine Arts at (870) 245-5129.
