Softball Eliminated from GAC Tournament by East Central

Facing elimination, the Ouachita Lady Tigers were unable to come up with the runs to match opponent East Central in the Great American Conference Tournament. Ouachita fell by a score of 8-0, ending their two game tear through the bracket.

Ouachita held ECU scoreless until the third inning, when they scored the first run of the game on a single through the left side. East Central was just getting started though, as the real damage came in the fifth inning.

East Central put together seven runs in the fifth inning, including a pair of 2 RBI doubles and an RBI single, resulting in the game ending at the conclusion of the inning.

Ouachita was only able to put together three hits in the game, two of which came from Kailey Madden, who finished the game 2-of-2 from the plate. The team’s other hit came from Michaela Hopkins, who finished 1-of-2.

Three players finished with multi-hit games for East Central, as they went on to record nine hits in their eight run showing.

Ouachita’s Shelby McWhorter was hit with the loss on the mound for Ouachita after throwing 4.2 innings and giving up five hits and three runs. She recorded two strikeouts in the game.

Brianna Nunley took the win for East Central, helping her team to advance through the bracket with a five inning shutout performance in which she only gave up three hits and recorded 10 strikeouts.

Upon the loss, Ouachita was eliminated from the GAC Tournament, ending their 2013 campaign. They finish the year with a record of 20-33.
