June 2, 2010

ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist senior Haley Chambers and junior Kristen Rigsbee were each named to the 2010 Daktronics All-South Region Softball Team, officials announced on Wednesday. Chambers earned honors as a First Team outfield selection, while Rigsbee was named to the Second Team as a designated player.

Ouachita Baptist (36-24, 14-16) set the all-time program wins mark in 2010 behind the effort of Chambers and Rigsbee, who both also set the all-time home runs mark at 13, breaking the record of 12 set by Rigsbee in 2008.

Chambers finished her final campaign for the Lady Tigers in dominant fashion, earning First Team All-GSC honors in outfield, Louisville Slugger/National Fast Pitch Coaches Association Division II National Player of the Week and also Gulf South Conference Player of the Week. The Booneville native finished first in the Gulf South Conference in RBI (69), second in batting average (.435), third in slugging percentage (.769), doubles (19) and total bases (143), fourth in hits (81) and fifth in on-base percentage (.483).

Rigsbee continued to be a force on the mound and at the plate for Ouachita, earning First Team All-GSC honors in 2010 as both a pitcher and designated player and finishing with a 19-10 record on the mound with a 2.57 ERA. The junior recorded 205 strikeouts in 191 innings of work, while walking just 38 batters. At the plate, the Frisco native hit .390 with 11 doubles, 13 home runs and 45 RBI on 69 hits. Rigsbee earned GSC Player of the Week honors on April 6, hitting .555 for the week with four home runs and driving in 14 RBI in 18 plate appearances.

The Lady Tigers earned the No. 3 seed in the GSC West Division, advancing to their second-straight GSC Tournament appearance, after debuting in their first tournament appearance in program history in 2009.

Becca Tipton of Arkansas-Monticello earned South Region Player of the Year honors, while Kirsten Frame of Rollins was named as the South Region Pitcher of the Year.
