Christians Brothers upends Lady Tigers in overtime

October 4, 2010

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- A pair of early goals by both teams weren’t enough to decide a victory in regulation, as Christian Brothers scored 16 minutes into overtime to defeat Ouachita Baptist, 2-1, in women’s soccer action on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.

Ouachita (5-6) lost the non-conference match to Christian Brothers (7-2), despite a solid effort defensively throughout the match. The Lady Tigers jumped out in front in the 17th minute of the match, as junior Beth Wendl scored her eighth goal of the season to put Ouachita up 1-0.

Christian Brothers answered at 30:14 with a goal via Sarah Catherine Ryan off an assist from teammate Marie Kvarnlof to tie the match at 1-1.

Both teams went scoreless for the remainder of regulation play, forcing an overtime period. It was Ryan again that answered the call for the Lady Bucs, giving Christians the 2-1 victory as Kelsey LaBarreare assisted on the play.

It was a tightly contested match throughout, as both teams recorded 13 shots each, as well as three corner kicks apiece for each program.

Ouachita senior keeper Whitley Hoppe recorded three saves in 107:37 minutes of action.

The Lady Tigers next travel to Carrollton, Ga. to face West Georgia in a Gulf South Conference matchup on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
