Tigers have no trouble in 3-1 victory over Christian Brothers

MEMPHIS, Tenn.- After falling behind 1-0 early, Ouachita Baptist scored three unanswered goals in the first half, easily defeating Christian Brothers, 3-1, in a non-conference men’s soccer matchup on Sunday in Memphis, Tenn.

Ouachita (7-3-1) fell behind at 16:18 as Alex Bermel scored on a corner kick for Christian Brothers (2-7-1), but quickly responded with a trio of goals to close out the road victory.

Sophomore Payam Pourjavad answered first for the Tigers, recording a goal at 25:15 off an assist from Ouachita sophomore Rizvan Ceka.

Ceka was next in line for Ouachita, scoring at the 31st minute mark, as senior Victor Romero assisted. The goal was Ceka’s eighth of the season. Freshman Justin Lowry responded with the final goal of the match for Ouachita, giving the Tigers a 3-1 victory, as freshman Nathan Gay provided the final assist.

Christian Brothers held a 17-5 shot advantage, but Ouachita freshman keeper Grayson Townsend allowed just a single goal in 90 minutes.

Ouachita returns to the field on Oct. 10 to face Delta State in a non-conference match in Arkadelphia at 3 p.m.
