Pennell named Player of the Week

Ouachita senior outfielder Justin Pennell was selected Tuesday the Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week.

Pennell, a native of Toronto, Canada, had a huge week for the Tigers in helping Ouachita, ranked No. 22, go 4-0.

[display_podcast]During the first game of a doubleheader against GSC East Division foe Montevallo, Pennell drove in a pair in a 6-2 win. However, he saved his best for the second game by belting a walk-off grand slam, which went over the scoreboard and onto the tennis courts in helping the Tigers rally for a 6-4 victory over the Falcons.

For the second straight and the third time in four weeks, the Ouachita baseball program received a top honor as senior first baseman Destan Makonnen was selected Tuesday the Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week.

The senior continued his power surge by going 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, along with a pair of home runs in an 8-4 victory in the opening contest against Christian Brothers. Pennell finished the week by going 1-for-4 with a run scored, while driving in three as the Tigers crushed Christian Brothers, 16-3. n
