Arkansas Tech outlasts OBU Volleyball in close second set; wins 3-0

ARKADELPHIA- After going up 1-0, Arkansas Tech outlasted Ouachita Baptist, 31-29 in the second set, defeating the Lady Tigers 3-0 in a Gulf South Conference match at the Sturgis Gym in Arkadelphia on Thursday.

Ouachita (12-7, 1-6 GSC West) responded well after losing the opening set, 25-16, but couldn’t finish off the Golden Suns (21-4, 6-1 GSC West) in the second set, despite leading 27-26 and 28-27 late in the game. Ultimately, it was Arkansas Tech who played consistent throughout, winning 25-16, 31-29, 25-20.

Leading the way for Ouachita again was sophomore Megan Askew with 10 kills, while senior Kaitlyn Mitcham recorded six kills and 13 digs. Sophomore Allison Frizzell added 17 digs.

For Arkansas Tech, Sarah Von Lienen recorded a match-high 18 kills, while teammate Laura Farney added 10.

Ouachita Baptist returns to the court for a GSC matchup with Christian Brothers on Tuesday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in Memphis, Tenn.
