ARKADELPHIA- Ouachita Baptist took a 1-0 lead at halftime, but a second half surge by Christian Brothers gave the Lady Bucs a 3-2 Gulf South Conference victory over the Lady Tigers in women’s soccer action on Saturday in Arkadelphia.
Ouachita (6-7-2, 1-4-1 GSC) lead early on at the 10:11 mark when freshman Morgan Pitchford scored on an assist from junior Beth Wendl, giving the Lady Tigers a 1-0 lead. Christian Brothers (9-4, 2-2 GSC) scored three unanswered goals in the second half, however, to overcome a 2-0 deficit and win their second GSC match of the game.
Wendl put Ouachita up 2-0 after sophomore Brittany Davidson attacked, assisting on the play when the Lady Bucs keeper fell down, leaving an easy score for Wendl at 56:17 in the second half.
Christian Brothers wouldn’t wait long to record their first score, as Lauren Browning put the score at 2-1 after teammate Sarah Catherine Ryan broke through the middle of the defense and assisted on a cross from the right side at the 60:12 mark.
Browning was in on the action yet again at 71:54, as teammate Lauren Quinones finished Browning’s cross shot from the right side, tying the match at 2-2.
With the match tied with less than 10 minute remaining, Christian Brothers’ Jennifer Hale gave Christian Brothers the lead for good, as Quinones attacked and provided the assist to Hale for the 3-2 go-ahead score.
The Lady Tigers held the advantage in shots, 16-10, as senior keeper Whitley Hoppe recorded five saves in 90 minutes of work.
Ouachita returns to the field on Tuesday, Oct. 19 against Central Baptist College at 1 p.m. in Arkadelphia.
