Tigersharks flex muscle with individual performances; women and men sit in third

CLEVELAND, Miss.- The strong individual performances were aplenty, but the Tigersharks sit in third place in both the men’s and women’s division entering the final day of action in the New South Intercollegiate Conference Championships in Cleveland, Miss. on Friday.

Ouachita junior Ksenia Gromova won the 100 Butterfly at 55.67, while in the 400 IM, senior Katie Patterson finished second at 4:32.74, behind Truman State’s Taylor Birsa at 4:30.15. The 800 Free Relay team gained top honors at 7:34.18 with the team of junior Megan Young, freshman Jennifer Steele, senior Katie Patterson and Gromova. The time was good enough for a two-plus second differential victory, as Truman State was the closest competitor at 7:36.83.

The 200 Free saw junior Megan Young finish in third, while Henderson State’s Nicole Horn won it in 1:51.02.

For the men’s 100 Breastroke, senior Razvan Goga took home the title at 56.09, while sophomore teammate Tim Ferris was in second place at 56.61. Ouachita again gained individual honors in the 100 Backstroke with sophomore Marcus Schlesinger winning at 49.67, while sophomore Jake McLain finished up in fourth at 51.61.

For the 400 IM, junior Kristian Krc finished fourth at 4:05.14, as Missouri S&T’s Zach Lemons won the event with a time of 4:01.17. In the men’s 800 Free relay, the team of senior Daniel Karkoska, Schlesinger, Krc and sophomore Austin Teague finished fourth at 6:54.80, behind Drury at 6:47.55.

In the women’s standings, Ouachita currently sits in third with 501 points behind leader Truman State (599) and Henderson State (533). For the men’s division, the Tigersharks have 414 points, behind overall leader Missouri S&T (589) and Henderson State (450.5).
