OBU Wrestling falls to Newman and Central Oklahoma at the Central Oklahoma Open

EDMOND, Okla.- The Ouachita Baptist Wrestling team fell to both Newman and Central Oklahoma in the 2011 Central Oklahoma Open in Edmond, Okla. at the Hamilton Field House on Saturday.

Ouachita (4-9-1) fell to Newman, 32-18, followed by falling to Central Oklahoma, 36-4.

Highlights for the Newman match included freshman Bobby Williams pinning Newman’s Alex Prine at the 46-second mark and freshman Jake Simpson brought home a victory in the 165-pound weight class over Ryan Spencer by injury default at 3:45. Ouachita freshman Brantley Pyle also collected a win in the 133-pound weight class via forfeit.

As a team, Ouachita led Newman in escapes (3-2) and reverses (7-4), while Newman held the advantage in takedowns (10-4) and take-downs (6-4).

Against Central Oklahoma, Pyle moved to 2-0 on the day with a 11-3 major decision over Zach Housley, 11-3.

Ouachita returns to action on Feb. 19 to face Truman and Tiffin at the Truman Open in Kirksville, Mo.
