OBU Women’s Tennis falls to Drury and Arkansas Tech to open season

ARKADELPHIA- The Ouachita Baptist women’s tennis team opened up the 2011 season with 7-2 losses to both Drury and Arkansas Tech at the Heflin Tennis Center on Friday.

Ouachita (0-2) was led by sophomore Lilia Sokolova, who finished the day at 2-0 in singles action, including am 8-6 victory over Jessica Valasquez of Arkansas Tech and battled Ellen Bennett of Drury for a 3-6, 7-6, 10-3 win.

Against Arkansas Tech, Ouachita got a victory from Sokolova and sophomore Samantha Street in singles action, as Street defeated Rachel Stevens, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In the Drury match, Sokolova and senior Megan Ruggles came up with singles victories, as Ruggles won via default over Drury’s Alana Bellinger.

Ouachita returns to action on Feb. 25 against Northeastern Oklahoma State at the Heflin Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
